Here are the steps we take to ensure the purity of our clay:
Before the clay is harvested research is done to see if any industries or farming has taken place on the land in the last 200 years. Primary clay is not farm-able soil because the clay becomes very rigid because of its elastic properties that prevent the plants' root system to grow. It is also verified that there are no industries disposing toxic waste into water, soil or air in a 15 mile radius around the clay dig site. Next, several samples are taken and sent to the laboratory to be tested for a 2nd level of confirmation to make sure the clay has no contaminants. Then it is harvested. It is harvested from 15-20 feet below the surface. The cooking pots and pans are formed by hand without the use of ANY additives or chemicals.
And no, we don't know of another company that goes through these steps to get you the healthiest cookware. If you know of one and if they're prices are lower please reach out to us and we can match their price.
A note about the test results: The testing is done at UMASS in MA. Since this is a university lab where testing is done for educational purposes only, it does not have a call center to answer customer quires so they have requested that we remove their information from the published form. We use UMASS for testing because they offer more thorough, detailed and complete testing compared to any other lab.
