Summer Time = Yogurt Time, Learn How to Make the Healthiest Yogurt in 10 Minutes Hands-on Time!

Summer time means it’s time to have your favorite super-food that is cooling, soothing, nutritious, and light – the healthy homemade yogurt. The best part is you can enjoy this delicious food without compromising on your diet – that is if made at home off course.

We would stress on ‘homemade’ because the store-bought yogurt is anything but healthy – thanks to the additives, sweeteners, artificial flavors and chemical preservatives which may make it taste good and 4-week-old yogurt fresh, but is detrimental to your body. Why eat this nutrition lacking yogurt when it’s so easy to make the healthiest yogurt at home?

First, I would like to share a little secret: the pot used to make yogurt plays crucial role in how healthy, non-toxic and delicious it turns out. Choosing Miriam’s Earthen Cookware (MEC) 100% non-toxic pure clay pot makes sure your yogurt sets properly without losing its health value and by not allowing metal or chemical toxins to leach from the pot into the milk in which if stands for almost 6-8 hours.

Also, the walls of MEC’s pots are semi-porous that allow excess water to evaporate making the yogurt thick and creamy, naturally and without any additives. The process of making yogurt that may seem daunting with a metal pot turns out to be a piece of cake with MEC in just 10 minutes hands-on time:

  1. Heat the milk to just before boiling point (till small bubbles form on the surface). Turn stove off, and open lid and let it cool down for 30 minutes or so for half a gallon of milk, till you can put your little finger and hold it there for 5 secs. Now the milk is ready for the culture. (Speaking from experience, it’s better not to use a thermometer to check the temperature for this sometimes interferes with setting of yogurt) {…5 minutes hands-on
  2. Add yogurt culture and stir thoroughly (leftovers from the previous batch or you can use some from the organic yogurt from the store but make sure it has live cultures – avoid powdered culture). {…3 minutes hands-on
  3. Set in the oven with the lid on and oven light on. {…2 minutes hands-on
  4. Let it incubate for 6-8 hours and the yogurt is ready!

The whole process takes less than 10 minutes hands-on time and the longer it stays in a pure clay pot the thicker it becomes. There is no need to add any additive or artificial sweetener so the yogurt remains 100% healthy and nutritious. Once the yogurt is set, you can flavor it with natural flavoring of your choice – sliced strawberries, brown sugar, maple syrup, blueberries or make spicy lassi with a pinch of salt and freshly sliced green chilies.

Here is what people like you have said having made yogurt in Miriam’s Earthen Cookware’s unique yogurt makers

“I love my medium MEC pot! I use it solely for making yogurt..about 2 times a week. After reading the instructions on the website, it couldn’t be easier to get in the habit of making each week. It’s inexpensive and easy; I love not having bought store bought yogurt in over a year. I am so glad I discovered this company; I’m interested in buying more pots for cooking all sorts of other food in the future.”

“I own a small cafe on an island off the outer banks. Last year I decided to open a shop and make homemade greek yogurt. I did a lot of research on the best way to make my yogurt and what method would deliver the best results. Utilizing clay pots was a suggestion I wanted to pursue so I looked for a source to procure them. I found Miriam and ordered a few to test them. I am a believer! Not only are these pots beautifully made and sturdy but they produce the most delicious yogurt! I am starting the process of opening my shop a few evenings a week for a two dish menu. My menu each week will be a small selection of savory dishes made in my clay pots. A month after receiving my initial order, I placed another much larger order since my demand is continuing to increase I’m so excited and it’s such a unique style of creating amazing dishes. Thank you!”
